The community of Igloolik is located on a small island of the same name in Foxe Basin, just off Melville
Peninsula on the mainland of Nunavut. The name Igloolik traditionally means There is an igloo here, in Inuktitut. One can observe a multitude of Inuit cultures in Igloolik, some dating back more than 4,000 years.
Igloolik is a community that balances modern living with a
traditional way of life. Isuma
Production’s Atanarjuat, the award winning movie based on
traditional legend, illustrates this balance in full color.
