Sanikiluaq is a small hamlet located on the Belcher Islands, on the north Coast of Flaherty Island, in the Hudson Bay. The community was created in 1970 to replace the "South Camp". The terrain is composed of many rocky cliffs that range between 50 and 155 meters in hight. Many of these cliffs are nesting grounds for common eider ducks, whose feathers (eiderdown) are used to make clothes and duvets.

Sanikiluaq carvers are known worldwide for their argillite carvings, made with a dark stone found on the Belcher Islands. The community is only accessible by air, like most Nunavut communities, and is served by the Sanikiluaq Airport.
