The northernmost community of Canada, Grise Fiord, is located on Ellesmere Island. Picturesque and remote, it is surrounded by high hills and sea ice (most of the year). The Inuktitut name for Grise Fiord is Aujuittuq, which quite literally means the place that never thaws out.
Visitors come to Grise Fiord to take in its spectacular beauty and wildlife. It is also a resting area for researchers traveling either to Ellesmere Island or to the famed “Ancient Forest” on Axel Heiberg Island.
