Clyde River, or Kangiqtugaapik to the Inuit, meaning “nice little inlet”, is located on the eastern shore of Baffin Island, on the shores of Patricia Bay. It is surrounded by spectacular fiords that expand far into the Barnes Icecap. The mountains, icebergs and glaciers in the Clyde River area are a must for ice and rockclimbers. Clyde River is known to have fresh air and more snow in the winter than other northern communities because of the mountains.

Much wildlife can also be seen, including caribou, narwhals and other sea mammals. A protected bowhead whale sanctuary is located nearby in Patricia Bay. The Clyde River Economic Development Society, a non-profit organization of community members that oversee new economic development projects for the community, are looking to export halibut and shrimp, clams, seal and caribou meat.
