English and Inuktitut

The community of Kimmirut, previously known as Lake Harbour, traditionally means "heel", which refers to the rocky outcrop just in the inlet. This very picturesque is found on the southern coast of Baffin Island, at the mouth of the Soper River. The Katannilik Territorial Park Reserve can be accessed just outside the community. Other activities perfect for the area are canoeing, kayaking, hunting, and fishing.

Kimmirut was once a Hudson's Bay Company trading post and an RCMP post. It also served as headquarters for the Canadian explorer J. Dewey Soper in the 1920s and 30s.

Many of Kimmirut’s residents are well-known artists who sell their art and carvings worldwide.
