The Inuit name for Resolute is Qausuittuq, which means "A Place with no dawn". It is Nunavut's second northernmost community and it is located in the High Arctic on the south coast of Cornwallis Island. Furthermore, it is the gateway to the High Arctic; it is the stopover Expeditions to the North Pole and to Ellesmere Islant National Park, as well as a centre for scientific research.

The community has a weather station as well as a Polar Continental Shelf Project camp. Resolute’s history has the most European influence of all the Nunavut communities. The community shares its name with the HMS Resolute, a British ship that was searching for the lost Franklin expedition.
